Aruni Shapiro was born in Sri Lanka and studied at Kelaniya University and the University of British Columbia, where she earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively, in Philosophy. She continued her studies and teaching in that field at Fresno State University and the University of Tennessee.
She has authored seven books on topics ranging from Benjamin Franklin to sports psychology. Most recently, she has translated “I, Pencil” by Leonard E. Reed (online), “We the Living” by Ayn Rand (online) as well as “The Economics of Freedom” into Sinhala.
Aruni lives in Selbyville, Delaware with her husband, a veterinarian and Director of Veterinary Services for Perdue Foods. Together they own and operate Lighthouse Dance and Yoga, a studio providing dance instruction and yoga practice for all ages.
She founded the Bastiat Society Sri Lanka chapter in 2014 and acts as a mentor to Students for Liberty in that country.
