All Chapters:

Receive any of the following books free of charge from the Ayn Rand Institute:

  • Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
  • Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal by Ayn Rand
  • The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand
  • Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand’s Ideas Can End Big Government by Yaron Brook and Don Watkins

In return, the chapter should:

  • Distribute these books primarily to young people

For chapters in their first year of operation, CEI agrees to:

  • Announce the chapter's formation and its first meeting to local CEI contacts and past interns (Note: The Bastiat Society International office will arrange for this announcement)
  • Supply a guest speaker
  • Cover travel costs (up to $500)
  • Cover the speaker's honorarium
  • Provide the speaker with copies of the latest CEI reports and material for distribution at the meeting

In return, the chapter must:

  • If airfare is involved, the chapter must work with the speaker and with CEI to arrange for multiple events, lectures, meetings while the speaker is in your area
  • Promote CEI's efforts and research by distributing CEI material throughout the year (CEI to supply material directly to the chapter)
  • Strongly consider inviting CEI speakers to future meetings

To arrange the event, the chapter shall:

Chapters are encouraged to contact Cato to arrange for a speaker.

Cato Agrees to:

  • Promote your first meeting (with a Cato scholar) to their contacts in your area (Note: The Bastiat Society International office will arrange for this announcement)
  • Work on providing a Cato guest speaker (speaker available may vary by location and dates)
  • Work with the chapter and the speaker to minimize travel costs and speaker fees
  • Provide the speaker with copies of the latest Cato reports, books, and material for distribution at the meeting
  • Provide chapters and their members a 25% discount on all Cato books. Visit Cato’s online store and use promo code < Bastiat > at checkout

In return, the chapter must:

  • If airfare is involved, the chapter is encouraged work with the speaker and Cato to arrange for multiple events, lectures, meetings while the speaker is in town
  • Promote Cato’s efforts and publications by distributing Cato material throughout the year (Cato to supply material directly to the chapter)

To arrange the event, the chapter shall:

For chapters in their first year of operation, FEE agrees to:

  • Announce the chapter's formation and its first meeting to local FEE alumni (Note: The Bastiat Society International office will arrange for this announcement)
  • Supply a guest speaker
  • Cover travel costs (up to $500)
  • Cover the speaker's honorarium
  • Provide the speaker with copies of the latest "Freeman" for distribution at the meeting

In return, the chapter must:

  • If airfare is involved, the chapter must work with the speaker and with FEE to arrange for multiple events (min. 3), lectures, meetings while he/she is in town
  • Promote FEE efforts and programs by displaying FEE's material throughout the year
  • Encourage FEE alumni to attend Bastiat meetings and remain involved
  • Strongly consider inviting FEE speakers to future meetings
  • Strongly consider ordering copies of The Law for your members. (Note: Negotiated price from FEE of $3.25 ea + shipping. Contact Krystal Kearney < kkearney@fee.org > to order.)

The Institute for Humane Studies has a network of more than 5,000 freedom friendly scholars. Through our Find Scholars service, we can help Bastiat chapters identify and connect with experts to speak on a wide range of topics including health care, labor/pension, tax and regulatory issues, education, and more.

Please contact Melinda Modica < find@ihs.gmu.edu >to submit a request. In addition to securing a speaker for your event, IHS can also promote the event to alumni in the area and recommend specific program topics as needed.

In most cases, the chapter is responsible for paying travel expenses and honorarium.

All chapters:
